Apple is preparing to unveil its highly anticipated iPhone 18 Pro Max alongside a smaller Pro model and the company's inaugural folding smartphone at a special keynote event expected on Wednesday, September 9. Industry experts and analysts point to this date due to Apple's historical pattern of avoiding product launches on the day immediately following the US Labor Day holiday, which falls on Monday, September 7.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has aligned with the Wednesday launch prediction. Gurman noted that because Labor Day falls on Monday, a Wednesday event is highly likely to preserve the standard workday travel window Apple historically provides for media attendees and employees. Following the official unveiling, Apple is projected to open retail sales for the new iPhone models on Friday, September 18, though the exact release window for the folding iPhone remains unconfirmed. Apple is expected to officially announce the keynote date two weeks in advance, on Wednesday, August 26, right before the IFA tech show begins.
Leaks Reveal 12GB RAM and Upgraded Triple 48MP Cameras
Early hardware specifications compiled by GSM Arena detail significant camera and performance upgrades for the upcoming flagship. The iphone 18 pro max is expected to ship with iOS 27 and will feature 12GB of RAM across all storage tiers, which include 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB options. The device will be built with a glass front using Ceramic Shield 2 technology, an aluminum frame, and a choice of an aluminum or glass back with original Ceramic Shield protection. The handset measures 9mm in thickness and weighs 240 grams.
On the rear, the triple-camera system will utilize three distinct 48-megapixel sensors. The main wide lens features a variable aperture of f/1.6-4.0 with dual pixel PDAF and sensor-shift optical image stabilization (OIS). It is supported by a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto lens offering a 100mm focal length, 4x optical zoom, and 3D sensor-shift OIS. The third sensor is a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 120-degree field of view. A TOF 3D LiDAR scanner remains on board for depth sensing.
Display, Connectivity, and Battery Varieties
The device sports a 6.9-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10, and Dolby Vision support. It features a resolution of 1320 x 2868 pixels, delivering a density of approximately 460 ppi. For front-facing photography and biometrics, the phone utilizes an 18-megapixel multi-aspect ultrawide camera alongside a SL 3D depth sensor for Face ID.
Connectivity options vary by region. The international model supports a physical Nano-SIM alongside dual eSIM capabilities, while the US version is entirely eSIM-only, capable of storing eight or more profiles with two active simultaneously. The China-specific variant retains dual Nano-SIM slots. The device also supports emergency messaging and location tracking via satellite, alongside a second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip.
Apple will deploy two different battery capacities depending on the market variant. The standard Nano-SIM model will carry a 5,391 mAh lithium-ion battery. Meanwhile, the eSIM-only model designed for the US market will feature a slightly larger 5,567 mAh battery. Both models support PD3.2 wired fast charging capable of reaching 50% capacity in 20 minutes, 25W wireless charging via MagSafe or Qi2, and 4.5W reverse wired charging.
