JAKARTA, JOURNALARTA.COM – The Social Affairs Ministry (Kemensos) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) are preparing training for Sekolah Rakyat, involving around 1,000 Military Academy cadets to mentor students at 178 school sites. The plan was discussed at the Kemensos office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (6/24/2026), and the program is targeted to begin in early August 2026.

The scheme matters because Sekolah Rakyat is not just about classrooms and dormitories. It is also about building daily discipline. The government wants basic habits such as neatness, order, and responsibility to take shape from the start of schooling.

Sekolah Rakyat training will involve Military Academy cadets

Deputy Social Affairs Minister Agus Jabo Priyono said each school is planned to be assisted by five cadets. The cadets will not only guide students, but also help teachers with matters of tidiness and orderly living in the dormitory.

“Once there is a scheme between TNI Headquarters and Kemensos, under the Ministry of Defense, each Sekolah Rakyat is planned to have five cadets. These five cadets will guide both students and teachers on neatness,” Agus Jabo said, as quoted on Thursday (6/25).

Agus said attention to neatness has already drawn the concern of President Prabowo Subianto. From the government’s point of view, the matter may look simple. But in a boarding environment, small discipline often determines the tone of everyday learning.

“Because we really need it. From the start, the minister wanted discipline to be built from the old environment to the new environment at Sekolah Rakyat, and from the beginning we had actually asked the TNI/Police to be involved in the training process,” he said.

The TNI role and the 178-site target

Commander General of the Indonesian Military Academy Lt. Gen. R. Sidiharta Wisnu Graha said his side is preparing about 1,000 first- and second-year cadets to join the program. The number includes cadet supervisors who will also assist the training process.

“We will prepare 1,000 people, including the cadet supervisors. So the cadets we send will be first- and second-year students,” Wisnu said.

According to him, the training will cover 178 Sekolah Rakyat locations. That means the program’s reach is quite wide from the start. The government needs to make sure the mentoring pattern, schedule, and task division at each site run consistently so implementation does not vary too much between regions.

Wisnu added that the program is still being finalized jointly by TNI Headquarters and Kemensos. One of the points under discussion is the cadets’ daily work model at the schools, including the duration of training and dormitory supervision.

Simple lessons, big impact

The material to be taught is also very practical. Cadets will train students on how to iron uniforms, tidy sheets, arrange clothing cabinets, polish shoes, and keep dorm rooms clean. For students in boarding schools, these habits are often the first things they face when entering a new environment.

This is where the Sekolah Rakyat training carries more weight than just discipline drills. Children learn independence. They also learn to follow shared rules, wake up on time, and keep personal belongings neat. For the government, this pattern is expected to help shape students’ character before they move on to heavier academic subjects.

The plan to involve the TNI is also in line with Presidential Instruction No. 8 of 2025, which is one of the policy umbrellas for the program. The presence of officers and cadets in the training space is expected to provide a concrete example of discipline, not just verbal reminders.

Kemensos and TNI Headquarters are still finalizing the technical scheme. The government targets the program to start in early August 2026 for one week in the initial phase. If the model works, similar training could become a routine part of the Sekolah Rakyat ecosystem going forward.

“So if in the future we carry out this program, there will be no problem, because it is in line with Presidential Instruction No. 8 of 2025,” Agus Jabo said.
