The directive follows similar reports received by President Prabowo Subianto, signaling a heightened government crackdown on environmental exploitation.

Addressing reporters at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, Maharani emphasized that such land conversion practices are unacceptable. "We will ask relevant authorities to investigate whether forest fire-affected areas have indeed undergone unauthorized functional shifts," she stated.
Maharani explicitly rejected the trend of repurposing fire-damaged land for commercial agriculture. She argued that these areas, which should be undergoing ecological restoration and conservation, are being exploited for industrial gain.
