JAKARTA, JOURNALARTA.COM – Non-subsidized Pertamina fuel prices in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 were higher than on Java, while subsidized Pertalite and Biosolar stayed the same across Indonesia. The difference applies officially at thousands of Pertamina gas stations across those three eastern regions.

This is nothing new. But the impact is real for millions of consumers. Higher distribution costs through rivers, seas, and even aircraft, plus regional motor fuel tax (PBBKB), make non-subsidized fuels such as Pertamax and Dexlite automatically more expensive than on Java.

Kalimantan fuel prices on June 23, 2026

Five Kalimantan provinces โ€” West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan โ€” use pricing benchmarks that vary from one area to another. Pertalite RON 90 remains at Rp10,000 per liter, while Biosolar CN 48 stays at Rp6,800 per liter. Both remain unchanged because the central government subsidizes them.

Pertamax RON 92 in Kalimantan ranges from Rp12,800 to Rp13,200 per liter, or Rp500 to Rp900 more expensive than the Java price of Rp12,300. East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan usually post the highest prices because of island geography and demand from mining logistics. South Kalimantan and West Kalimantan are relatively cheaper within that range.

Dexlite CN 51 and Pertamina Dex CN 53 fell in price in June 2026 compared with May, a welcome sign for transport and mining sectors. Pertamax Turbo RON 98, however, rose, tracking global oil price movements.

Fuel type Kalimantan price Java price Difference
Pertalite RON 90 Rp10,000/L Rp10,000/L โ€”
Biosolar CN 48 Rp6,800/L Rp6,800/L โ€”
Pertamax RON 92 Rp12,800โ€“13,200/L Rp12,300/L +Rp500โ€“900
Dexlite CN 51 Higher than Java โ€” Down vs May 2026
Pertamax Turbo RON 98 Highest in the region โ€” Up vs May 2026

Sulawesi fuel prices on June 23, 2026

Six Sulawesi provinces โ€” North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and Gorontalo โ€” also bear significant inter-island sea distribution costs. As a result, Pertamax in the region ranges from Rp12,900 to Rp13,300 per liter, or Rp600 to Rp1,000 more than on Java.

South Sulawesi and North Sulawesi usually post the highest prices in the region. The distance from major refineries and limited shipping frequency are the main factors. For Dexlite and Pertamina Dex, final prices in Makassar or Manado are usually above Rp13,500 per liter, even after falling from May 2026.

Pertalite and Biosolar? Exactly the same: Rp10,000 and Rp6,800. The state subsidy covers the distribution gap so prices do not weigh too heavily on lower-income households.

Papua fuel prices on June 23, 2026

Papua is the highest-priced fuel zone for Pertamina in Indonesia. The region covers six administrative entities: Papua, West Papua, Highland Papua, Central Papua, South Papua, and Southwest Papua.

Pertamax in Papua can reach Rp13,500 to Rp14,500 per liter. The gap with Java can reach Rp2,200. In Jayapura, for example, Pertamax is close to Rp14,000 per liter. Dexlite and Pertamina Dex are the most expensive products in the country here, with a difference of Rp1,000 to Rp1,500 from Java prices.

Highland Papua and Central Papua carry the biggest burden. Fuel distribution to inland areas often relies on small aircraft, and operating costs are far above any road or sea route. Southwest Papua is relatively more affordable because access is closer to the coast.

But Pertalite still costs Rp10,000. Biosolar still costs Rp6,800. The central government covers all extra distribution costs so subsidized fuel prices remain equal from Sabang to Merauke.

Why do prices differ so much from Java?

Two main factors shape this pricing structure.

First, distribution costs. Kalimantan depends on river and sea routes. Sulawesi uses inter-island shipping. Papua, for inland areas, depends on aircraft and land roads whose conditions are far from ideal. Shipping costs can be two to three times higher than fuel distribution in Java.

Second, PBBKB, or the vehicle fuel tax, varies from province to province. On average, provinces in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua impose a 5 percent PBBKB. Javaโ€™s rate is 7.5 percent, but Java still enjoys lower final prices because distribution is more efficient and sales volumes are much larger.

The combination creates a clear gap: Pertamax costs Rp12,300 in Jakarta, Rp13,000 in Balikpapan, Rp13,200 in Makassar, and Rp14,000 in Jayapura.

June 2026 changes: prices fall and rise at the same time

Even though base prices differ by region, June 2026 brought the same general direction across Indonesia. Dexlite and Pertamina Dex fell compared with May 2026, giving some relief to freight and mining businesses in Kalimantan and Papua. Pertamax Turbo rose, but its market is narrow: high-performance car owners who need RON 98.

Pertalite and Biosolar did not move. The government said subsidized fuel quotas for Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua would be sufficient through the end of June 2026.

Practical tips for consumers

For residents in these three regions, there are a few things to keep in mind. Pertalite remains the cheapest choice for vehicles designed for RON 90, because the difference from Pertamax can reach Rp2,500 to Rp4,000 per liter. That adds up when you fill up every week.

Check the latest prices through the MyPertamina app before heading to a gas station, because prices can differ from one city to another within the same province. Subsidized fuel purchases using MyPertamina QR codes also help reduce long queues, which are still common at gas stations in eastern Indonesia.

One thing should not be ignored: avoid mixed or adulterated fuel that sometimes circulates in remote areas. It damages engines, raises fuel consumption, and repair costs can far exceed the short-term savings.

FAQ: Fuel prices in eastern Indonesia

How much is Pertamax in Kalimantan? It ranges from Rp12,800 to Rp13,200 per liter, or Rp500 to Rp900 more expensive than the Java price of Rp12,300.

Why is fuel in Papua the most expensive? Fuel distribution to inland Papua relies on aircraft and long land routes far from refineries, so logistics costs are much higher than in other regions.

Does Pertalite in Papua still cost Rp10,000? Yes. The central government subsidy keeps Pertalite and Biosolar prices the same across Indonesia, including Papua.
