JAKARTA — Pertamina Fuel Prices in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua on June 23, 2026 were higher for non-subsidized products than in Java, while subsidized Pertalite and Biosolar stayed unchanged across Indonesia.
The price gap hits drivers where it hurts most: at the pump. For households, logistics firms, and mining operators in the eastern regions, the extra cost adds up quickly, especially when trips rely on fuel bought week after week.
Kalimantan fuel prices stayed above Java
In Kalimantan, prices differed from province to province across West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan. Pertalite RON 90 remained at Rp10,000 per liter and Biosolar CN 48 at Rp6,800 per liter. Both are subsidized by the government.
Pertamax RON 92 in the region ranged from Rp12,800 to Rp13,200 per liter, compared with Rp12,300 in Java. East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan typically posted the highest numbers, helped by geography and the heavy fuel demand tied to mining and transport activity. South Kalimantan and West Kalimantan were on the lower end of the regional band.
Dexlite CN 51 and Pertamina Dex CN 53 were lower in June than in May, giving some relief to fleet operators. Pertamax Turbo RON 98 moved the other way and rose, following global oil movements.

Sulawesi prices reflected shipping costs
Sulawesi’s six provinces — North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and Gorontalo — also faced higher non-subsidized fuel prices because of inter-island shipping. Pertamax in the region ranged from Rp12,900 to Rp13,300 per liter, or Rp600 to Rp1,000 above Java.
South Sulawesi and North Sulawesi often sat at the top of the range. Distance from major refineries and limited shipping frequency keep pushing costs up. In Makassar and Manado, Dexlite and Pertamina Dex usually stayed above Rp13,500 per liter even after June’s decline from May.
Pertalite and Biosolar remained at Rp10,000 and Rp6,800. That steady pricing matters most for lower-income households and small businesses that still depend on subsidized fuel for daily mobility.
Papua remained the most expensive fuel zone
Papua stayed Pertamina’s priciest region. The area covered Papua, West Papua, Highland Papua, Central Papua, South Papua, and Southwest Papua, where delivery can depend on sea routes, land routes, and, in inland areas, small aircraft.
Pertamax in Papua reached Rp13,500 to Rp14,500 per liter. The gap with Java could touch Rp2,200. In Jayapura, Pertamax was close to Rp14,000 per liter, while Dexlite and Pertamina Dex were the country’s most expensive in several locations, running Rp1,000 to Rp1,500 above Java prices.
Highland Papua and Central Papua carried the heaviest burden. Fuel trucks cannot reach many areas easily, and aviation logistics cost far more than road or sea delivery. Southwest Papua tended to be cheaper because access is closer to the coast.
Why eastern Indonesia pays more
Two things drive the gap. First, logistics. Kalimantan relies on river and sea routes, Sulawesi on inter-island shipping, and Papua on a tougher mix of land, sea, and air transport. Those costs can run two to three times higher than fuel distribution in Java.
Second, regional fuel tax, or PBBKB, varies by province. On average, provinces in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua apply a 5 percent rate. Java’s rate is 7.5 percent, but Java still enjoys lower final prices because distribution is more efficient and demand is much larger.
The result is easy to see at the pump: Pertamax costs Rp12,300 in Jakarta, around Rp13,000 in Balikpapan, Rp13,200 in Makassar, and about Rp14,000 in Jayapura.
For consumers, the practical hit is immediate. A driver who fills a tank once a week in Papua or eastern Indonesia can pay hundreds of thousands of rupiah more over a month than a driver in Java, especially if the vehicle needs non-subsidized fuel. That difference also feeds into delivery costs, food prices, and fares in local markets.
Pertamina’s June pricing pattern shows one clear split: subsidized fuel stayed flat, while non-subsidized products kept reflecting the cost of distance. In eastern Indonesia, that gap remains visible every time a driver pulls up to the nozzle.
