The Nasdaq rose 1.09% to 24,579.42 on Friday and the S&P 500 gained 0.32% to 7,376.86, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.46% to 51,285.73. The split session left Wall Street higher at the broad-market and tech level after Thursday's heavy selling, with small caps also advancing.
The Russell 2000 climbed 0.87% to 2,753.65, outpacing the S&P 500. The Dow's loss of 237.33 points made it the only major US benchmark in the red at the close.
Wall Street: tech leads, Dow lags
Friday's gains followed a bruising prior session in which the Nasdaq sank 5.52% and the S&P 500 fell 4.36% as AI and chip shares slid. Friday's rebound recovered only a small part of that drop. The Nasdaq remains 10.75% lower over the past month and is up 5.75% so far this year, with its 52-week high at 27,599.8.
The S&P 500 is down 5.45% over one month but still up 7.76% year to date. Its 52-week high stands at 7,818.9, while the 52-week low is 6,343.7. The Dow ended the week below 51,300.

What to watch next
Weekend closures leave US equity markets shut until Monday, so the focus turns to the week's earnings calendar. Constellation Energy reports before the market opens on Monday, November 9, followed after the close by The Trade Desk and Take-Two Interactive. Applied Materials and Cisco report after the close on Thursday, November 12.
Traders will also watch whether the Nasdaq can build on Friday's bounce after a month of heavy losses, and whether the 10-year yield holds near 4.86%. Crypto markets keep trading through the weekend, with Bitcoin the main gauge of risk appetite while stock markets are closed.
